Het beeld van de hoererij heeft betrekking op de toestand van de mensheid. Wij allen zijn God ontrouw geworden. We hebben Hem en zijn gebod in de steek gelaten en ons met allerlei afgoden ingelaten. Het is beschamend maar waar. En toch, temidden van onze zonde komt God naar de mensen toe en bewijst Hij zijn liefde aan de liefdelozen. Wat een blijde boodschap!
